My dad had a hard life in Scotland and alcoholism is in the family. Many generations of alcoholics have died but there is always hope.
He is now 34 years sober because he admitted to himself he had a problem and he had the loving support and understanding from my step-mum
He lives alone now but he has a healthy attittude and while he doesn't attend meetings anymore, the idea that he is in charge of his life now and takes each day as it comes is in everything he does.
Every moment is precious as is every moment I spend with him on a video call. I try to talk to him every day because those are all days I really shouldn't have.
Take comfort in the knowledge that it doesn't always end badly and there is a light that shines. Just remember you are not the one to blame for the dark days. You can only hope your light it bright enough to lead the way to hope.
