Community Guidelines

Together we can create a safe, supportive place for everyone affected by someone else's drinking.

Last updated: July 2026

Families of Alcohol Abuse exists to offer understanding, hope and support to people whose lives have been affected by someone else's alcohol use.

Everyone who joins our community deserves to feel safe, respected and heard. These guidelines help us maintain that environment.

Be Kind

Treat every member with compassion and respect. Many people visiting this website are experiencing difficult situations and may be feeling isolated, anxious or overwhelmed.

Share Your Own Experience

Speak from your own experiences rather than judging or criticising others. There is no single "right" way to cope with the effects of alcohol abuse.

Respect Privacy

Please avoid sharing personal information about yourself or identifying details about another person without their permission.

Protecting everyone's privacy helps keep this community safe.

No Bullying or Harassment

Abusive language, personal attacks, intimidation, discrimination, hate speech or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

No Advertising or Spam

Please do not use the community to advertise products, services, websites or fundraising activities without permission.

Medical and Legal Advice

Members are welcome to share their personal experiences, but please do not present medical, legal or professional advice as fact.

If someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent help, they should contact their local emergency services or an appropriate professional service.

Moderation

To maintain a supportive environment, moderators may edit, hide or remove content that breaches these guidelines or the Terms of Use.

Accounts that repeatedly ignore these guidelines may be suspended or removed.

Reporting Concerns

If you see content that concerns you or believe these guidelines have been breached, please contact us so that we can review the situation.
