Extended Family

It isn't easy to talk to the extended family and explain what is going on. The person with the problem is often ashamed and guilty and really doesn't want people knowing.

From experience the alcohol caused paranoia and embarrassment and no-one was to tell anyone else.

It is really difficult because you don't want to upset anyone and are afraid if you do tell and they find out, the drinker will stop talking to you.

However, if your extended family find out from others they might be annoyed you didn't tell them.

You have to decide what is best. Telling or not telling isn't going to stop your loved one drinking but they may use it as an excuse to drink. Remember you didn't cause it and you have to think of yourself.
